Abstract: “Graphic Medicine” refers to the intersection of the medium of comics and the discourses of illness, health, and healthcare. While the term ‘comics’ often brings to mind humorous subject matter, because of its unique combination of words and images, the medium of comics is particularly adept at portraying complex, emotionally-laden, and challenging topics. An increasing number of patients, family caregivers, clinicians, educators, and researchers are using it to communicate their experiences and priorities.
