Compulsory Sterilization in the Perkins School for the Blind during the Progressive Era

Abstract: Through close reading of a fictionalized account of an alum's experience in the early twentieth century, this paper considers how students at Perkins were educated to apprehend their bodies and sexualities. Commentary on the paper will be offered by Mark Paterson, PhD, a faculty member in medical humanities and the Department of Sociology, and by Julian Gill-Peterson, PhD, from the Department of English.
