Discussion of In Shock: How nearly dying made me a better intensive care doctor (2017) by Rana Awdish, MD, FCCP, facilitated by Ritu Thamman, MD

November 26, 2018 -
5:00pm to 6:30pm

Abstract:  Dr. Rana Awdish will speak at the University of Pittsburgh on November 28 about her experience in the healthcare system that led her to write In Shock. In advance of her visit, participants in Medical Humanities Mondays will discuss portions of her book with her colleague Dr. Ritu Thamman, a triple board-certified cardiologist and writer, who joined the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Cardiology as an echocardiographer and educator, after more than a decade in private practice in Pittsburgh. Dr. Thamman teaches about writing and medicine; her own book, As the Heart Knows, a collection of patient stories and cardiac images, will be published in 2018. In Shock will be available for purchase from The Book Center and at this discussion. Portions for discussion will be available by contacting bioethics@pitt.edu.

Contact bioethics@pitt.edu to received excerpts from In Shock for discussion.
