How Racism and Discrimination Impact Black Girls’ Sexual Health

April 5, 2024 -
11:00am to 12:00pm

Abstract: Structural racism and discrimination may increase adverse sexual and reproductive health (SRH) behaviors, such as sexually debuting at a younger age, more lifetime sexual partners, and inconsistent condom use. However, the influence of racism and discrimination on sexual health factors has not been well-explored in Black adolescent girls. This presentation will review social and structural contributors and describe data from an NIH-funded study examining the impact of racism and discrimination on sexual health indicators of Black girls.
