Pernkopf to Present Day: Nazi Anatomists and Ethical Implications of Their Work

April 11, 2019 - 4:00pm

Abstract: Pernkopf’s anatomical atlas has long been lauded as an artistic masterpiece with its 800 detailed illustrations.  The tainted history behind the atlas haunts modern science. Prof. Fried, who is dedicated to the use of human donor dissection and human and animal tissues for learning and instruction, will discuss the ethical implications of Nazi anatomists and the illustrations they produced.  Prof. Fried is an active member of the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS) and nationally recognized guest lecturer on the history of body donation specializing in the history of body use in Nazi Germany.
