Abstract: STEM has an ethics problem: 20-50% of female undergraduate and graduate students in science, engineering and medicine state they have experienced sexual harassment, with medical students most likely to be harassed by faculty or staff. For female faculty members in those fields, the rate is greater than 50%.  “Targets of harassment rarely formally report their experience, often because they (correctly) perceive that they might experience retaliation.” (Kaplan and Guarino 2018, reporting in The Washington Post). Danuser will present her research, including close textual readings of key pages of the MeTooSTEM.com website, and discuss how it supports women in STEM facing high rates of sexual misconduct. (Those attending are invited to bring their lunch.)
