Ritu Thamman, MD, is a triple board-certified cardiologist and writer. She has been in private practice in Pittsburgh for more than a decade and joined the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Cardiology as an echocardiographer and educator. She has presented on various panels regarding the intersection of the heart and the humanities, and teaches University of Pittsburgh students about writing and medicine. Her book, As the Heart Knows, a collection of patient stories and cardiac images, will be published in 2018. She has also published images of cardiomyopathies and has presented at the annual meetings of the American College of Cardiology where she is a working member of the Disparities of Care Task Force. She is also on the Development Committee of the American Society of Echocardiography.
