Robin Maier, a Family Physician, is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She is the Director of Medical Student Education, as well as the Clerkship Director for the Family Medicine Department. Dr. Maier studied English and American Literature as part of the Medical Scholars Program at the University of Illinois, earned an MA, and completed graduate studies up to the A.B.D. level in 17th Century British Literature with a dissertation topic of “Decay Theories in 17th Century British Literature,” for which she won the University of Illinois MD PhD Allerton Conference Award for Best Presentation. During her graduate studies, she taught writing extensively, including Freshman Rhetoric and Freshman Rhetoric for Engineers, and worked as a Consultant and then Assistant Director for the Writer’s Workshop. In 2006, Dr. Maier began teaching a mini-elective in Medicine and Literature for the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and continues to offer this course approximately every other year.
