Tomar Pierson-Brown, JD, LLM

Tomar Pierson-Brown is an Assistant Professor of Law and Director of the Health Law Program. Her research examines the use of law, policy, and community-engagement strategies to realize health justice for system-involved youth and youth with disabilities. As Director of the Health Law Program, Pierson-Brown oversees the Health Law Certificate program and serves as the primary point of contact for students in the JD/MPH and MA/JD programs.

For eight years, Pierson-Brown directed the Health Law Clinic, a medical-legal partnership with UPMC-Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. She currently co-leads Pitt Law Academy and teaches Civil Procedure.

Prior to joining the Pitt Law Faculty, Pierson-Brown taught as a Clinical Instructor and Supervising Attorney in the Juvenile and Special Education Law Clinic at the University of the District of Columbia – David A. Clarke School of Law. Before entering academia, she was an attorney with Children’s Law Center in Washington, D.C., and an Equal Justice Works fellow with the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland.

Pierson-Brown received a JD from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, and an LLM in clinical legal education and systems change from the University of the District of Columbia – David A. Clarke School of Law.
