Valerie Satkoske is Director of Ethics at Wheeling Hospital in Wheeling, West Virginia. She serves as an ethics consultant for the Rural Emergency Trauma Institute for the Wheeling area and for the Catholic Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, and is Associate Director of the West Virginia Network of Ethics Committees (WVNEC). Dr. Satkoske has taught in the Master of Arts Program in Bioethics and the Certificate Program in Ethics & Aging at the University of Pittsburgh, where she served as the ethicist for the Clinical and Translational Science Institute. She received her PhD in Healthcare Ethics in 2008. She is currently Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Education at West Virginia University where she teaches medical ethics. Her research interests include ethical issues in rural trauma care, ethical management of delirium, and end-of-life decision making.
