Overall Objectives: At the end of this presentation, participants should be able to:
1. Identify what a mental health advance directive is and how it is used to support treatment decisions during a time of crisis.
2. Distinguish between the three types of mental health advance directives permitted under Pennsylvania law.
3. Discuss the difference between the mental health treatment decisions that are considered a preference and those that require consent and are legally binding on a provider.
4. Recognize responsibilities of individuals, agents, and providers in the context of mental health advance directives.
