Abstract: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is an increasingly used form of life support for cardiac or pulmonary failure that is intended to be used as a bridge to recovery, transplantation, or employment of a mechanical assist device. Sometimes patients cannot be successfully liberated from ECMO, which leads to a range of ethical questions including consideration of ECMO as a destination therapy. Center affiliated faculty member Gina Piscitello will discuss these questions in this Healthcare Ethics ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes).
