Abstract: Dr. Empey and Dr. Parker will identify ethical issues associated with precision medicine, including why some patients may benefit from it more than others. They will also explain why pharmacogenomics is often thought to be ethically unproblematic but presents some ethical challenges for patients, providers, insurers, and society.

Abstract: Dr. Guidry-Grimes will explain key differences between a ventricular assist device (VAD) and heart transplantation that should impact ethical analysis for offering these interventions. She will then analyze the considerations for VAD eligibility from an ethics perspective and discuss difficult cases related to VAD eligibility for vulnerable patients.
