Equity in Reproductive Health
With support from the NIH, Veteran’s Administration, and foundations, Sonya Borrero focuses on reproductive health equity. She has examined multilevel influences on contraceptive and pregnancy decision making in marginalized populations in order to identify targets for social, clinical, and policy interventions to decrease people’s risk for undesired pregnancy and support reproductive autonomy. She especially seeks to understand structural factors shaping and constraining low-income men’s and women’s reproductive agency, intentions, and behaviors.  She has also examined race, insurance status and access to tubal sterilization and its reversal, and is developing patient-centered digital tools to support women’s reproductive decision making and facilitate provider provision of family planning care.
