Professional Statement

Dr. Maier is Assistant Professor of Family Medicine with a secondary appointment in Pathology and serves as Director of Research for the Department of Family and Community Medicine. He earned a BS in physics from the University of Notre Dame and completed both his PhD in physics and MD through the Medical Scholars Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He subsequently trained in family medicine at UPMC Shadyside.

Before joining the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 2011, Dr. Maier spent nine years at ChemImage Corporation, where he held roles ranging from Senior Biomedical Scientist to Vice President of Biomedical Research. His work focused on biomedical applications of spectroscopic imaging and the development and commercialization of new technologies, including diagnostic applications in anatomic pathology. His current research continues to focus on imaging and image-analysis tools for anatomic pathology, in collaboration with colleagues in computational and systems biology and pathology.
