Professional Statement

Lianne Glaus Vighetti, DHCE, HEC‑C, LCSW, is a Medical Ethicist at UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Shadyside, and UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital. Her work focuses on clinical ethics consultation and supporting interdisciplinary healthcare teams as they navigate complex ethical challenges in patient care, related to decision‑making capacity, surrogate decision‑making, end‑of‑life care, respect for patient autonomy, and addressing moral distress among healthcare professionals. She participates on multiple institutional ethics committees within the UPMC health system.

Dr. Vighetti’s scholarly interests include identifying ways to reduce moral distress among healthcare professionals, ethical challenges in hospital discharge planning, and the role of clinical ethics in supporting systems‑level approaches to ethical practice within healthcare organizations. She has also collaborated on interdisciplinary research related to functional seizures and clinical documentation.

Dr. Vighetti earned a Doctor of Healthcare Ethics from Duquesne University and holds a Master of Social Work and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh. She is Healthcare Ethics Consultant–Certified (HEC‑C) through the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
