Professional Statement
Dr. Robin Maier is an Associate Professor of Family Medicine, Department of Family Medicine. She was awarded a B.S. in physics-in-medicine and English literature by the University of Notre Dame in 1990. She was a part of the Medical Scholars Program at the University of Illinois, earning her MA in English and American literature in 1992, and her MD in 1998. She remains A.B.D. in 17th Century British Literature. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in 2004.
Dr. Maier served as a volunteer faculty member of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, teaching “Medicine and Literature” starting in 2006, while working clinically at the Mon Valley Community Health Center, a FQHC. In 2008, she joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh, and over the years since then, she has worked clinically at the Matilda Theiss Health Center, WPIC Primary Care Clinics at Bellefield Towers and the Oxford Building, UFM Squirrel Hill, Magee Hospital (rounding on adult inpatients and newborns), the Adolescent Medicine Clinic at CHP, and currently she sees patients for outpatient gynecology and prenatal care at PCHS Alma Illery Medicine Center in Homewood.
Dr. Maier has been the Director of Undergraduate Medical Education in the Family Medicine Department since 2010, and served as the Family Medicine Clerkship Director from 2010-2026. She has taught MS1’s and MS2’s as part of the 3RC Curriculum starting in 2023 as both a Longitudinal Educator and Clinical Skills Preceptor. She is a Course Lead for the UPSOM Organ Systems Cardiology Course, and continues to serve as Assistant Clerkship Director. She was the original Founder and Director of the Longitudinal Alliance Program from 2013-2019.
